These are confusing times for One Direction fans. While some are still grieving the March departure of Zayn Malik from the band, others have taken time to dream: perhaps there is a chance of his return, perhaps Malik will abandon his much-derided venture with producer Naughty Boy.
Where better to voice such optimism than on Twitter, the social media lifeblood behind One Direction's relationship with their fans? Overnight, the hashtag #WelcomeBackTo1DZayn appeared, and was trending by morning.
Malik is due to be married later this month to fellow X Factor pop star Perrie Edwards of Little Mix fame. Furthermore, One Direction will perform as a foursome for the first time on British soil on Friday. It's safe to say that Zayn Malik will not be returning to One Direction any time soon.
However, that didn't stop one determined Brazilian Directioner from setting up a Twitter storm last night saying:
I DONT KNOW LETS TREND #WelcomeBackTo1DZayn
And after this everyone, including me, went wild and started trending the hashtag!
The Brazilian fan explained why she started trending the hashtag and she said that she saw a show where Zayn Malik was being interviewed and he said he will be returning to one direction!
This threw the fans into a frenzie and one thing led to another, and the whole fandom was trending #WelcomeBackTo1DZayn
